Job Interview Do’s and Don’ts (job search)

By Darryl Strosnider

Getting a job interview can be enjoyable but also nerve-wracking. Making a good first impression can be challenging and the toughest thing about it is that you only really have a few moments to prove yourself before you are either hired, or before you’re back at the first step again looking for a job.

Job Interview Dos:

You do want to be sure to dress professionally whenever you are going to visit the company. Your appearance actually gives the HR manager a message without you having to say a thing at all.

Always be sure to learn more about the company and their mission. You will be surprised at how many interviews always get the question about what do you know about the company, and how unclearly these questions get answered.

Another simple thing you may want to do is show up to the job interview early.

Job Interview Don’ts:

Of course the main tip that’s given to anyone is to not show up late for an interview. If you do, you’ve more than likely not only just destroyed your chances of landing the job, but you also will have to prove yourself ten times harder as to why you should get the job compared to the other candidates who arrived - on time.

Try not to pretend to be 100% perfect. Not one person is perfect and we’ve all made mistakes sometime in our lives.

Don’t eat anything that is going to leave a bad taste in your mouth. If you’re really in need of food, try something light such as french fries as they really don’t leave that much of a taste. Always double check on everything before leaving your house.

Don’t forget your resume and always bring a pen as you will most likely need to sign some documents if you get hired.
